PHILOSOPHY

"Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your heart. Who looks outside dreams, who looks inside awakens.”~Carl Gustav Jung

In a large temple in Thailand there was once an enormous clay statue of the Buddha. At one point, the monks who cared for the statue for some 500 years noticed that it had begun to crack and would soon be in need of repair. As time went on one of the cracks became so wide that a curious monk was able to shine a flashlight inside. What he saw was a flash of brilliant gold. What he discovered was one of the largest and most luminous gold images of Buddha ever created in Southeast Asia. The monks believe it had been covered in mud and clay to protect it in times of conflict and unrest.

This story conveys the essence of my work philosophy. For many if not most of us, we have acquired a layer of protective covering to shield us from threatening situations—to keep us safe. This covering often begins when we are very, very young in order to be safe in our environment. The problem is that we often forget that we have been utilizing defenses and thus forget who we truly are. Like the Buddha’s plaster and mud covering, we are hidden from ourselves and others. As we grow older, these adaptive mechanisms actually become maladaptive and cause us pain, stress and unhappiness. Anxiety, depression and a host of symptoms are the result of not living from a place of our inner truth. Feeling lost and having a sense of “there has to be more for me in this life” is a result of our true purpose being hidden.

If we are to live authentically and be in alignment with our true nature, our individual purpose, these old coping mechanisms must be revealed and our deepest feelings, desires and needs must be uncovered. That is how we will ultimately shine as the Buddha in the story above. We are adults now, and those old coping mechanisms, while providing us with a short term sense of familiarity and pseudo safety are probably the most dangerous deterrents to our true happiness and sense of well-being.

As we allow this uncovering we discover new resources, feelings, gifts and desires that were also hidden.

I have seen so many people begin this path and find a deeper inner peace than they ever would have thought possible.

TESTIMONIALS

"My life is immeasurably better, my spirit is free, and my heart overflows with hope and courage because I have known you. I cannot thank you enough."~G.R.

"When I walked into Judy’s office the first time I was feeling extremely depressed and hopeless. I was not living—I was only existing. Judy made me feel comfortable, safe and cared for. She guided me through my depression, gave me assignments and taught me to care for myself and helped me learn to love and value who I am. Now most of the demons are behind me and I am free to live with a new vitality, sense of peace and looking forward to my next adventure."~P.S.
